ChibuzorOssai

DevOps & Cloud Engineer/Mechanical Engineer

I build and look after servers, cloud setups and the automation that keeps them running. I did that for four years as a remote DevOps engineer at Array Software Solutions, while I studied mechanical engineering at UNN. I also size and install solar power systems.

Things I've built

Python · Cloud2026

Market data pipeline

Every week I look at how big traders are positioned in currency futures. I wrote a Python pipeline that pulls the CFTC and CME data and builds those tables for seven currencies, so I don't have to put them together by hand.

Then I wrote the setup to run it in the cloud, so it doesn't need my laptop to be on. It can run on a schedule, send the new tables to my phone on Telegram, and tell me when something breaks.

  • Python
  • Docker
  • Terraform
  • AWS
  • GitHub Actions
  • Telegram bot
  1. 1
    I push code to GitHub
Tests run, then a Docker image is built
  2. 2
    The image goes to AWS
Stored in ECR, rolled out to an EC2 server
  3. 3
    The server runs the job
    At 11:15, 12:30 and 23:30, Lagos time
  4. 4
    Results land on my phone
New tables, failure alerts, and /run to rerun it

41 automated tests. No open ports on the server, and no AWS keys stored anywhere.

Python · Testing2026

A backtest engine that checks itself

It tests trading strategies on minute-by-minute data. Before I trust any result, I run it on random data, where it should find nothing. That check caught a one-line bug that made a losing strategy look like it won 82% of the time.

I'd rather publish an engine that killed my own result than one that flatters it.

MQL5 · Testing2026

A coin-flip test for a trading robot

I wanted to know if my MetaTrader robot's results were real. So I swapped its buy and sell decision for a coin flip and kept everything else the same. The coin flip scored almost exactly what chance predicts, which cleared the robot and led me to the real bug, in my Python code.

Smaller builds I learned from

  • AWS with Terraform. A VPC, auto-scaling EC2 servers and security groups, all written as code.
  • CI/CD. A GitHub Actions pipeline that builds and deploys a Node.js app in Docker.
  • Secure web setups. Nginx, Caddy and Traefik in front of apps, with HTTPS, a firewall and Fail2Ban.
  • Kubernetes. A small multi-node cluster on my laptop with kind and Minikube.

Experience

Where I've worked

  1. Solar installer & shop owner

    2024 – now

    Self-employed · Ankpa, Kogi State

    • I visit each building, list what needs power, size the panels, battery and inverter, then install the system myself.
    • In November 2025 I took over a registered electronics and solar shop. I've grown its stock value by about a third since then, and I handle the suppliers and inventory.
  2. DevOps Engineer

    Feb 2022 – Jan 2026

Array Software Solutions Ltd · Remote

    • Wrote one Bash script that sets up a new server from scratch: updates, Docker, Nginx, the firewall, monitoring and SSH hardening. Every server came out the same.
    • Set up separate logs for production and QA, so we could find problems faster.
    • Put Nginx in front of our apps with free, auto-renewing SSL certificates, and made Docker and monitoring start again on their own after a reboot.
    • Closed unused ports and blocked direct access to our services by IP address.
    • Added deployments with GitHub Actions to the company's DevOps repository.
  3. Freelance DevOps Engineer

    Jan 2024 – Jan 2026

    Small business clients · Remote

    • Hosted a client's web-scraping bot on a cloud server. It collects data on a schedule and sends them regular updates.
    • Set up servers, Docker deployments, GitHub Actions pipelines and Prometheus and Grafana monitoring for client projects.

About me

How I got here

I studied mechanical engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In 2022, while I was still a student, I got a remote DevOps job at Array Software Solutions and kept it for four years. The work was mostly setting up Linux servers, keeping them secure, and automating the boring parts.

After school I came home to Kogi State and took over a solar and electronics shop. Now I also size and install solar systems for homes and businesses. It has taught me a lot about how power systems behave in real life.

Next, I want a DevOps, cloud or data center role, remote or abroad. Outside work, I'm into 3D art in Blender and African history.

Solar work

₦4M

saved on generator fuel in two years

In 2024 I advised a tailor who was always buying generator fuel to switch to solar, and I did the installation with tubular batteries. He says he saved about ₦4 million on fuel in two years, and he used that money to open a second shop in Abuja.

  1. Look at the loadEvery appliance, and how long it runs each day.
  2. Size the systemPanels, battery and inverter to match that load.
  3. Get the equipmentPanels, batteries, inverters and cables from my suppliers.
  4. Install and testMount, wire and switch on, then check it works.
  5. Biggest job so far: six 300 W panels (1.8 kWp), a 2 kVA hybrid inverter and a 4 kWh lithium battery.
